Box Break: 2024 Wild Card Alumination Paul Skenes Limited Edition
Box Score Collectibles was recently set up at the Arizona State Cards Show: Fall League Show. The show ran from November 8th-10th. We had a great time, met a lot of collectors and had a lot of interesting conversations.
While there, I found a table that was selling the 2024 Wild Card Alumination Paul Skenes Comix Limited Edition Box. Wild Card products are typically unlicensed by professional sports organizations, like MLB, NFL, etc. However in this case they hold an Independent Player License (IPL) for the depicted player’s likeness and image. This product was release on October 17, 2024.
Wild Card products are hit-driven. All boxes and cases are expected to pack a powerful punch. The Paul Skenes Limited Edition Box contains six packs. Each pack contains one encased card and all cards are numbered to 30 or less.
This product does have a chance for autographs. All autographs are 1 of 1’s. On average there are two 1 of 1 autographs per case. In addition there are three 1 of 1 rookie cards on average per case. With 12 boxes in each case you have almost a 42% chance of pulling a 1 of 1 from a box.
I like the fact that each card is encased and individually packed. This shows that great care was taken to protect the cards. Also it is more fun to unwrap each hit separately. Higher end products should be packaged more like this.
The designs on the card are tremendous. They are fun, whimsical and their creativity exceeds many of the efforts of their major counterparts. I have tried to find a check to understand the different card types and parallels, but I have not come across one. When I do, I will update this post and likely create a second post with a rundown of the checklist.
In the first pack I pulled an All-Star Rookie numbered 1/20.

Pack two yielded a Pittsburgh Steel City card numbered 4/15.

An All-Star Rookie numbered 25/25 was found in the third pack.

There was one college themed card that was found in pack four. 2023 Louisiana State University Champs numbered 11/30.

The fifth pack included another All-Star Rookie. This time numbered 4/10.

This box included some major last pack magic! Pack six delivered an All-Star Rookie Auto 1/1!

This Wild Card Alumination Paul Skenes Box was a lot of fun! I pulled a lot of great cards and everything about the presentation was top notch. I may need to find another one of these!
