Box Break: 2024 Topps Holiday Mega Box
I picked up a 2024 Topps Holiday Mega Box from the Auburn Trading Card Show on November 16th. Topps Holiday is one of my favorite sets as it adds a festive spin on the flagship design. This product was released on November 15, 2024.
This year Topps expanded the Holiday assortment to three different box types. There is the Mega Box, Holiday Tin and Advent Calendars. The details of these types were covered in the previous post.
The 2024 Holiday Mega box contains 10 packs with 10 cards in each pack. There is an ornament box loader and either an auto or relic guaranteed in each box. The 200 card set takes the best rookies and stars from the three flagship lines. In other words, there is more star-packed power in this set.
In my mega box I pulled five of the Silver glitter parallels. This year the glitter highlights the neon aspects of the card: team name, border and the background holiday elements. Three of the five Silver Glitter are rookie cards: Keaton Winn, San Francisco Giants, Jordan Lawlar, Arizona Diamondbacks and Jordyn Adams, Los Angeles Angels.
The glitter parallels have been expanded this year offering a variety of colors in addition to the silver, red and gold of past years. I was able to pull a Blue Metallic Glitter parallel of Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner.
I really like the Blue Glitter Parallel. It reminds me of the Blue Foil parallels found in the now discontinued Opening Day line.
Image variations are a big draw in the Topps Holiday release. As mentioned in the Overview Post, there 50 subjects for the variations, but there is only one level of variation. This year there are no SSP or SSSPs.
The three variation I pulled for this Mega are of Vladimir Guerrero Jr, with a Christmas Lights necklace and what looks like a little garland. Juan Soto with a holiday hat and a Christmas Lights necklace. The third was Curtis Mead with a stovepipe hat and snow ball buttons in a snowman like feel.
The Ornament Box Loader has taken different shapes over the years. In 2023 it was shaped like a snowflake and a Christmas Tree in 2022. This year the ornaments are shaped like a gingerbread house. There are 20 cards in this checklist. The ornament that adorned my mega box was of Corey Seager of the Texas Rangers.
The Mega Boxes promise one hit, either an auto or a relic. The hit I pulled in the Mega Box did not disappoint. I was gifted a Paul Skenes relic card. Skenes was recently voted the National League Rookie of the Year by the BBWA.
As I’ve said before Topps Holiday is one of my favorite releases. I enjoy the festive take on the design and for me it wraps up the year quite nicely. The Mega Boxes tend to run in the $30-$35 range. With the parallels, variations and guaranteed hit, it is worth the value.
