Box Break: 2024 Panini Prizm Baseball Blasters

For this box rip I decided to do a slightly larger opening. Usually I open 1 or 2 blasters for these write ups. This time I opened 6. Not all 6 were purchased at the same place. So I thought it would be interesting to see what kind of collation I come across in a lot like this.

Prizm baseball is a 300 card set that highlights many of the game’s retired star players as well as the up-and-coming prospects. As a Minor League Baseball fan this is a product that is right in my wheelhouse.

Each blaster box contains 6 packs with 5 cards per pack. On average, each blaster should yield 4 exclusive Blue Ice Prizm parallels. There are other exclusive cards such as the Red, Blue and Green Pulsar Prizms and the ultra-rare Instant Impact insert set. None of these are guaranteed.

The card design is very typical of Prizm products. A silver/chrome border with a non-linear inner border surrounding the player photo. Panini has done a much better job selecting photos over the past few years, finding pictures where they do not have to photoshop too much when removing the logos.

The “typical” chrome border does lend itself very well to the Color Prizm parallels. This I’m sure is the intent so that the Prizms really stand out and shine. After all, isn’t that what this product is about, the parallels.

If color parallels are your thing, then this is a great product for you! Throughout the 6 blasters I pulled a total of 55 Prizm Parallels. There were 23 of the exclusive Blue Cracked Ice, just 1 card short of the average. There were also 20 Silver Prizms, 6 Green Prizms and 6 Red Pulsar Prizms /399.

The inserts dropped at a rate of 3 per box. For the base inserts there were 5 Fireworks, 4 Hype, 3 Prizmatic and 5 Top Tier. There was one Insert Parallel, an Evan Carter Red Pulsar Prizmatic #016/399. In total, I pulled 17 base inserts and 1 Red Pulsar Prizm Insert. I pulled 2 Paul Skenes base inserts: Prizmatic and Top Tier.

In all 6 blasters there were a total of 108 base cards. I was surprised to find that after sorting these cards there were only 6 duplicates, 5% duplication. Considering each blaster is its own box and the fact I purchased these at different locations I expected a duplication rate closer to 20%. As a set collector this is a big win!

This was a fun rip. Panini has done a great job putting out great products in spite of not having the MLB license. The prospect selection goes beyond just the Top 100 prospects. There are many underrated prospects to be found in this set and I believe that this is part of the attraction of the 2024 Panini Baseball Prizm.

For those interested here is the stat breakdown for the 6 blaster boxes.
