2025 Topps Series 1 Overview - Part 2
In the previous post I discussed the basic configuration of the hobby releases and the base set including rookies. In this post we are going to look at the Insert Sets.
2025 Topps Series 1 is a 350-card base set that showcases some of the best players MLB has to offer. It also gives us a first look at the 2025 Rookie Card Class. Another draw of the Flagship line is the massive catalog of Inserts Sets. Odds listed in this article are for the Hobby and Jumbo Packs only.

One of the most common inserts is back and this year Topps is honoring the 35th Anniversary of 1990 Topps. There are 100 base cards in Series 1 showcasing today’s Rookies & Stars and yesterday’s Legends in the colorful set that kicked off the 1990s! Odds: 1:5 Hobby, 1:1 Jumbo.
In addition to the base insert set the 1990 Topps will be given the Chrome Mojo treatment in the Silver Packs. This Insert Set will also contain 100 base cards. The checklist for this is different from the base Insert Set, so they are not just parallels. These Silver Packs are exclusive to the Hobby and Jumbo boxes, so if you want to get some of these you need to pick up these Hobby releases or hit the 3rd party market. Odds: 4:1 Silver Pack, 1 pack per Hobby Box and 2 packs per Jumbo Box.
The 2024 All-Topps Team highlights the best MLB has to offer. The 12 cards set includes the best player at each position, as chosen by Topps. The lineup includes all the fielding positions as well as DH, LHP, RHP and RP. Odds: 1:34 Hobby, 1:9 Jumbo.
There are 28 different cards in the 2024 Greatest Hits Insert Set. This Insert covers some of the best highlights from the 2024 season. Odds: 1:15 Hobby, 1:4 Jumbo.
Call to the Hall is a 25 card Insert set that highlights some of the greatest players and their journey to the Hall of Fame. Early-20th Century Legends such as Ty Cobb, Ted Williams and Babe Ruth will be featured alongside contemporaries like Ken Griffey Jr, Albert Pujols and Rickey Henderson. Odds: 1:17 Hobby, 1:4 Jumbo
The retail exclusive Stars of MLB returns for a fourth year. The 30 cards set will be available in all retail formats. This is the easiest insert set to complete due to the availability. This set will showcase current Stars and new Rookies in the checklist.
There is not a lot of info about Training Grounds as of this writing, but from what we have seen it is a Spring Training insert. It could potentially be similar to the Spring Has Sprung insert set from 2020 Topps Opening Day. As this product is released we will have more info. Odds: 1:17 Hobby, 1:4 Jumbo.
There are two returning case hit Inserts sets this year: Home Field Advantage and Heavy Lumber. Home Field Advantage is Topps’s answer to the popular Downtown Inserts found in Panini’s Football and Basketball products. There are two levels of Home Field Advantage. There is the regular 20 cards set which includes current MLB favorites. Then there is the 5 card Legendary Home Field Advantage which features 5 Hall of Famers. This Insert Set has quickly become a collector’s favorite since it debuted in 2023.
Odds: Home Field Advantage, 1:240 Hobby, 1:228 Jumbo. Legendary Home Field Advantage, 1:58.375 Hobby, 1:14,335.
Heavy Lumber returns for a third season. These cards are unique as they are printed onto a thin wood veneer. This year, Heavy Lumber includes some of the Legendary home run hitters in addition to current sluggers. Odds: 1:2,917 Hobby, 1:760 Jumbo.
After a one-year hiatus, All Aces are back! The 25 card set features some of the best pitchers of all-time in a playing card style format. After being omitted in 2023, Dodgers great Sandy Koufax will make his All Aces debut. Unlike 2023, these inserts will be rare pulls in the Hobby and Jumbo Boxes. Odds: 1:1,167 Hobby, 1:287 Jumbo.
The newest SSP Insert is Plakata. This is a collaboration with MLB Network Analyst Carlos Pena and his famous “Plakata” Home Run call. The 25 cards set showcases some of the best Latin-born Home Run Hitters in history. Odds: 1:4,670 Hobby, 1:1,149 Jumbo.
Missing Information:
As of this writing I have not been able to find any information on the First Pitch Insert Set. I have come across an image of a black parallel of Juju Watkins from Dodger Stadium. I have also seen info about autograph versions. However, these are not yet listed on the odds sheet, so I am uncertain as to how these will be distributed in the packs.
As you can see, there are a lot of Insert Sets to chase if you want to create a Master Set. As of this post, there are 320 basic insert cards across 8 Insert Sets. This number does not include autos, relics, parallels, rare or other SSP inserts. The Insert Sets nearly double the card count of the base set. This is the reason why I chose to dedicate a whole post to this part of Series 1.
In the next installment we will take a look at the Parallels. 2025 Topps Series 1 is set to release on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
