Christmas Eve Rip: 2022 Panini Chronicles Baseball
For my first annual Christmas Eve Rip I chose to open six Jumbo packs of 2022 Panini Chronicles Baseball. Each pack contains 15 cards and includes one exclusive Pink Pulsar Prizm. In 2022 there are a lot of rookies to chase. The primary chase rookies were Bobby Witt Jr and Julio Rodriguez.
In some circles Panini Chronicles seems to draw some ire from collectors. However, for me one of the attractions is that each insert set is given a modern take on their past designs. There is a 50-card Chronicles base set. This set is a simple design that allows the photography to stand out. There is a variety of insert sets featuring over 20 different set designs. The insert sets range from 10 cards up to 100 cards. If one were to chase the whole set it would run upwards of 700 cards.
In the six packs, I pulled twelve Chronicles base cards, an average of two per pack. This gives a base set completion rate of 24%.
The other 13 cards in the pack are inserts and parallels. Some of the insert sets are fairly common. These were ones that showed up in almost every pack. Some of the more common inserts were Panini Classics, Luminance, Pinnacle and Threads.
Several insert sets were less common appearing in one, maybe two of the jumbo packs. The less common insert sets include Marquee, Recon, Spectra and XR.
In the insert sets, I was able to pull a couple of the chase rookie cards. I got two Bobby Witt Jr cards, one in Classics (pictured above) and one in Rookies and Stars and one Julio Rodriguez from the Elite set.
The two Revolution cards shown above are Astro parallels. This parallel seems to fall every three packs. The exclusive Pink Pulsar Prizms are limited to the Contenders Optic, Crusade, Phoenix and Titan insert sets. In my six packs, I pulled two each of Contenders Optic, Phoenix and Titan. The Juan Soto Titan and the Fernando Tatis Jr Contenders Optic highlight the group.
I ended up pulling three hits in the 6 packs. In the first pack I got a Drew Ellis Phoenix Ruby Wave parallel, serial numbered 090/199. This was followed by a Mike Yastrzemski Revolution Cubic Parallel numbered 12/25 in the next pack.
My final hit was an America’s Pastime Swatches Red Foil of Josiah Gray.
Over the past few months I have grown to like Panini Chronicles Baseball. I enjoyed ripping the 2022 Chronicles. It’s fun to see the players in different card designs. I have found that the 2023 Panini Chronicles is a much different product. I have picked up several packs and blasters of the 2023 version. There is a big difference between this year’s and last year’s set. I will save this for another post, but suffice it to say, it is a difference that I think is better.
2022 Panini Chronicles Baseball Jumbo packs will be coming soon to the store. The price will be $5/pack. In the meantime, for more information or to purchase email us at biceballcards@gmail.com
