Box Break: 2025 Topps Series 1 Jumbo Box - Major Hit Inside!

When Series 1 came out I was torn as to which format to purchase. I am a set collector first so I normally purchase a Hobby Box. Typically a hobby will get me at least two thirds of the set and a few inserts and parallels. This time around I decided to pick up a Jumbo box. A Jumbo Box contains 10 packs, 40 cards per pack and guarantees at least 1 auto and 2 relics.

I purchased the Jumbo Box from Neighborhood Card Shop in Lodi, CA. This is the closest LCS (Local Card Shop) to me and they typically have some of the best prices on release day. I had made my selection from what was on the shelf and as I was waiting to get rung up another worker opened a fresh case. I was given the option to pick a box from the fresh case instead. I looked at the case and I noticed that all, but one box was facing the same direction. So I chose the box that was facing a different direction. Jokingly the guy at the shop said, ā€œIt must mean something, doesnā€™t it?ā€

One of the attractions of the Jumbo box is the exclusive Sandglitter parallel. I believe that this is a huge upgrade from the Gold Rainbow Foil that was previously included in the Jumbo Boxes. This parallel looks great and really highlights a variety of colors. These parallels fall 1:2 packs and I pulled 5 of them in my box.

The Rainbow Foil is another parallel that will be found 1:2 packs. In my box, the packs that did not have a Sandglitter parallel, contained a Rainbow Foil. I also pulled 2 color rainbow foils that are new to 2025 Topps Series 1. The Aqua Rainbow Foil (not numbered) and the Purple Rainbow Foil (/250).

Another great parallel that I pulled was a Team Color Border. I like the design that have this year. Instead of the team logo being a part of the full border, it is used in one have with one team color and the other team color is on the other half. These are typically one of the case hits. The one I pulled was of the Chicago Cubs Dansby Swanson.

On average there were 2 Inserts per pack. Each pack contained a 1990 Topps Anniversary insert along with at least one other set. These were the inserts I pulled from the Jumbo Box.

For the better part of the last decade Topps has included Silver Packs in their Hobby and Jumbo Boxes. These packs contain a chrome mojo style 1990 Topps Anniversary card. These cards are not parallels since there is different photography used on the cards. In addition, the checklist is different. Some players appear in this set, but not the base 1990 Topps Anniversary set.

There are 2 basic relic types found in 2025 Topps Series 1: Major League Materials and 1990 Topps style. In the Jumbo Box I opened I pulled one of each. I like the design of the Major League Materials this year. I like how they are including the background of the photo and not just cropping out the player like they typically do.

The other hit in the box was an autograph card. The auto I pulled was a monster! Remember how earlier I had mentioned that the box I grabbed from the case was turned differently than the others? Well, Iā€™m not saying that there is really anything to it, but I pulled one of The Big Hurt Autograph cards!

This is a special set that is a tribute to Frank Thomas whose iconic rookie card was found in 1990 Topps. There are 25 cards in the set and from what I can tell these cards are all numbered to 10! The odds of pulling one of The Big Hurt autos are 1:74,296 Hobby packs and 1:9,557 Jumbo packs. For the Jumbo Boxes this equates to 1 in every 160 cases. These are insane odds!

As for the set, I was 35 cards short of completing it. I had 45 duplicates so, in theory, I could have made the full set if the packs had the right collation. All in all I am very happy with my choice of getting a Jumbo Box. It was a fun box to open. The new Sandglitter parallels are great and The Big Hurt auto is phenomenal!
